African fintech company Flutterwave has launched a new Naira Travel Card through its Send App, targeting Nigerians in the diaspora who face payment and currency-related challenges when travelling back home.
The new card allows users to spend directly in Naira, reducing reliance on cash and minimising foreign exchange complications often encountered during visits to Nigeria.
Addressing Diaspora Spending Challenges
According to Flutterwave, the Naira Travel Card is designed to simplify everyday transactions such as transportation, accommodation, and local purchases, while offering greater transparency and control over spending.
Diaspora travellers have long cited difficulties with currency conversion, card acceptance, and fluctuating exchange rates. The company says the new feature responds directly to these pain points.
Expanding Diaspora-Focused Fintech
Flutterwave’s Send App has increasingly positioned itself as a platform tailored to cross-border financial needs, including remittances and local payments. The introduction of the Naira Travel Card reflects broader efforts within Africa’s fintech sector to bridge gaps between diaspora users and domestic financial systems.
The company has not yet disclosed rollout timelines for additional currencies or regions.
